Golf Drop Shipping Store [LIVE Case Study]
What Is Drop Shipping?
Drop shipping: move (goods) from the manufacturer directly to the retailer without going through the usual distribution channels.
In short, when we are talking about drop shipping in our world, we are typically the middle person, who is looking for a % of profit.
Example: The manufacturer sells a golf ball for $0.50. The end user purchases it from a website that is selling it for $5.00. At this time, the website admin places the order to the manufacture and makes the shipping address the consumers address. In this case, the website has made $4.50 and has not touched the product.
Why Is Drop Shipping So Popular… And Not So Popular?
Drop shipping is so popular because it seems easy!
There is no inventory in drop shipping and because of that, you will have very minimal startup costs. Seriously, like less than $100 start-up costs.
Drop shipping is so popular because it has been glorified!
There are tons of case studies that go as follows “How I made $6,000 per month dropshipping in 2 months“! Most of the people who are writing these case studies have not build a drop shipping store and are trying to get you to buy their course, so proceed at your own caution.
Drop shipping is so popular because it is hands off!
You do not need to speak to clients or do any front facing work. All you need to do is place an order to the manufacturer once you make a sale. This is, in fact, the thinking before people start. However, people often forget how they will get buyers to their website, something that usually takes lots of time and is very hands on.
Drop shipping is DIFFICULT!
In fact, most entrepreneurs that I’ve talked to get into it because they want a quick buck, they don’t care about the item they are selling, and they want results so they can create the “I made $6,000 in 1 month” headline.
Because of that, drop shipping actually makes unpopular amongst entrepreneurs who understand this.
What is this live case study?
Well, just like many other entrepreneurs and Hobby Hustlers, I want to show you that drop shipping is actually difficult and there is a lot too it. It is not something you can do in 1-2 days and make tons of money.
On the other hand, it can be very rewarding and lucrative, as long as you are playing the long game.
I believe building a lasting brand can be very fun, and that is exactly what I want to do. However, how do you build a lasting brand, in drop shipping, that you really care about?
All you need to do is find a niche or passion that you LOVE and go full out on building a brand for it.
Ask yourself a few simple questions:
- What do I do after work?
- If I had a day-off (or week) what would I enjoy doing?
- What are the associations/clubs or organizations that I belong too?
- What kind of books/magazines/websites/podcasts am I subscribed to?
- What do “How-To” videos you enjoy watching?
- If you could be anything you want, what would your career? What industry?
- What are some hobbies you’ve stopped because you’ve got too busy in life?
These questions may or may not be applicable to you. The important thing here is that you can figure out something in your life that sticks out. Something that you enjoy doing, or something that you’d like to learn more about.
I did this exercise and I saw a recurring theme of golf. I love the sport of golf and spend about 8-12 hours per week on the golf course (2-3 rounds of 18). I am not the best golfer, but I enjoy watching videos at home on how to improve my swing, on new products that are entering the industry, and trying different types of tactics to improve my game. I even subscribe to a golf magazine!
So, my plan is to create a live case study surrounding the makings of a drop shipping store.
In the next blog post, I’ll show you how to find a name for your drop shipping store and validating if you should use it! You can read it here.
